When we say camping, what usually comes out of our mind is an outdoor activity where families or friends hang out at a nice park for a day trip, picnic and other recreational activities. Of course, it wouldn’t be called “camping” without spending a night in the open air or a tent. Well, this one has a different twist. Just imagine yourself “camping” while being suspended in mid-air with only a few ropes attached to the cliff, keeping you from plunging to an uncertain death. Cliff camping will definitely make your day extra special and exciting.

Rock climbers usually use a portaledge or a hanging tent system to spend a night or two during their big mountain climbs. Whenever bad weather is on the horizon, a portaledge serves as a shelter for the climbing party.
Today, portaledge camping at Yosemite attracts hundreds of visitors to experience the thrill of being suspended hundreds of feet above the ground. Although there have been reported cases of injuries and near-death experiences for some climbers, there are still quite a good number who are willing to take the risk.
